EC releases FAQs to streamline corporate sustainability reporting
The European Commission has recently published a new set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) designed to assist companies and stakeholders, including auditors, in navigating the sustainability reporting requirements under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
These FAQs address crucial topics such as the scope of the CSRD, guidance on which European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) to apply, and advice on handling estimates when value chain information is incomplete. Additionally, they tackle key auditing and assurance considerations, providing much-needed clarity.
The Commission highlights that these FAQs were developed in response to feedback from companies and are aimed at reducing the administrative burden associated with sustainability reporting. The goal is to make compliance more cost-effective, while enhancing the usability and comparability of reported sustainability information.
The CSRD introduces comprehensive reporting requirements for companies within its scope, focusing on the risks and opportunities related to social and environmental issues, as well as the impact of their activities on people and the environment. The first wave of companies will be required to report under these new rules in 2025, based on their 2024 financial data.
